“Titanic” Electric Violin Cover (quality)

What is the price range of a good quality violin?
Okay, I’ve been playing violin for almost 6 years, and my teacher said it’s about high time I get myself a good quality violin. Y’know, nice looking, nice sound, etc. so today we’re going violin hunting. My current violin, which is a “student” violin, cost about $800 used (I bought it, not rented it) so my teacher is thinking about $1000 – $1500, maybe even more.
